September 11, 2001 - Never Forget

Before I get started, today is as everyone is well aware that today is the nine year anniversary of September 11, 2001. A lot has happened in those nine years but the event feels like it happened just yesterday. I remember waking up that morning when a fraternity brother of mine had called me and asked if I had seen the news. At this point only one tower had been hit. I thought it was pilot error, but turned the news on to see what was happening. When the second plane hit I was not paying attention to the TV and I will never forget to scream from the news reporter. I was working in Towson Town Mall at the time and when I got there the place was a ghost town. I think the store I was working at was open for maybe 30 minutes when we were told to close down and go home. I spent the rest of the day glued to the TV in anger, shock and disbelief.

That night I remember talking to a friend of mine and he described what was happening. He said, “Everything reminds me of one of those disaster movies. The city that is being affected is almost in a panic, the leaders are talking tough, and the rest of the world can not turn away from the news coverage.”

I was always grateful that at the time I did not know a single person who was killed in the attacks. As time has gone by I have met people affected and my heart goes out to each person I meet.

It’s amazing how much our world changed since that day and how much differently I look at the world since that day.

We must never forget all the innocent lives lost that day and the heroism of those that arrived first to the scene. My prayers are with the families of everyone who lost someone 9 years ago today.

Never Forget
